I traveled 100 miles to investigate northern Wisconsin's popular, but unregulated, rafting industry. There were no laws to protect rafters, like Lina Vergara, who died on a trip. My three-part investigation, and her family's fight, got the attention of local lawmakers. They helped convince the Menominee Indian Tribe to enact first-of-its-kind-rules to ensure everyone's safety on the water and spear-headed a 5K run that gives away academic scholarships.

FITCHBURG, Wi. (WISC) — Amos Mortier led a seemingly simple life in Fitchburg devoted to his dog and college science classes, making it hard to believe he would be part of the area's largest drug trafficking operation.
No one has seen or heard from Amos since he vanished nine years ago this month. The Fitchburg Police Department need help and for the first time police are presenting Amos' case to a group of special investigators called the Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators. |

EDGERTON, Wi. (WISC) — Detectives admit it's been years since they've had a credible lead in a Rock County woman's death.
To try to change that, the detectives showed News 3 photos the public has never seen before. Authorities took the pictures in August 1982 when they found Barbara Nelson's body in a Walworth County cornfield. She was partially clothed in what detectives think was the killer's vest. It could be the clue they need, if someone recognizes it. |

HORICON, Wi. (WISC) — In a small Dodge County community, a big mystery is still brewing.
Six years ago, someone killed Laura Babe and set the crime scene on fire, making her death nearly impossible for police to solve. They never found a weapon and there hasn't been a tip in years. So, did someone pull off the perfect crime? |

LANCASTER, Wi. — Authorities are reviewing a 1976 murder again after family members contacted News 3.
Sharon Johnson hopes news coverage will help lead cops to her brother's killer. Grant County Sheriff's Department detectives always thought there were two possible suspects. But long after retirement, the lead investigator explains the problems with the case. "In fact, I've never heard of a homicide quite like that before," said Perry Ahnen. |

BELOIT, Wi. (WISC) — Two years and there are still no answers in a Rock County woman's death.
Marjorie Sands' family found her dead on her bedroom floor. The coroner ruled it an accident, but officials say it wasn't. Several days after 91-year-old Sands was buried, her family found something suspicious enough for authorities to exhume her body. The Rock County coroner never performed an autopsy, and Sands' son said, had she, it would have been clear Marjorie didn't accidentally fall out of her bed and die. |

DODGE COUNTY, Wi. (WISC) — A Dodge County correctional officer completed a 40-hour, nationally-recognized course, to become the county's first certified forensics artist.

MADISON, Wi. (WISC) — Wisconsin's veterans visit their memorials and reflect on the moments no one there will soon forget.
Ironically, it was a trip that almost wasn't, as parts of this weekend's Badger Honor Flight were threatened by the just-ended federal government shutdown. Maybe that's why the welcoming committee seemed a little bigger and their cheers a little louder as Wisconsin's veterans left Madison Saturday for Washington, D.C. |
